Chateau de Pennautier is an impressive estate in the Mediterranean area of southern France, 6 miles from Carcassonne.  The Chateau was built by Bernard de Pennautier during the reign of Louis XIII, circa 1620.  The present tenants Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril are direct heirs and the 10th generation of vignerons since the estate was founded.

The gorgeous setting and rich history makes Pennautier a top destination for Wine Tourism, and there are regular events, wine tastings and cooking classes held throughout the year.

Pennautier Chard Viognier

Our buyer for the South of France, Chris, has picked their Chardonnay Viognier blend from their Estate selection as his Buyer’s Choice this week.  The chardonnay for this wine is sourced from high altitude vineyards, so the grapes retain natural acidity which brings freshness to the wine.  Viognier lends wonderful peach aromatics and weight, giving a sense of body.

Taste: Scrumptious green fruits, apple and a note of hay are met by succulent peach, stone fruits and spice from the Viognier.  Medium bodied and refreshing.

Enjoy It With: Thou shalt bring the fishy on the little dishy.  Especially Tuna fishy with passionfruit and balsamic dressing, bit of rocket leaf and some feta.

Know Thy Wine: A combination of Mediterranean sunshine, an Atlantic influence and cool mountain breezes make for exceptional vine-growing conditions.

Our Buyer’s Choice will be open for you to taste in store for free this weekend. You can get it online here.
